removing pcv

How do u remove pcv? I tried pulling it but it wont budge. It has 2 clamps, one at the top of the rubber and the other at the bottom connecting to the pcv. I'm afraid if i pull it too hard it might break. Is there an easier way of removing it? Thanks.

Don't quote me as I have a Gen 3 ('94 LE) but for me, I just remove the clamp from the hose that goes into the PCV valve and then just yank on that thing. A little twisting action here and there and that bad boy came right out. I banged the back of my hand on the intake manifold and cursed lightly but you should be able to do that. I mean, PCV valves don't screw on, they just slide in. But, then, I have a Gen3.

But.. hold on... you got a 4 cyl so you have my engine, the 5SFE block. It should be a simple hard pull on it. Pull but if you are scared of breaking it to the point where it could be stuck broken, then pull from the rubber "boot" part. Pull, twist, then shout It should come right out... Write back to see if you got that thing out...

Edit: Remove the clamp AND hose so you are pulling nothing but the PCV valve itself. I'mma go tug on mine just to make sure that I gave you the right directions

Edit some more: Yup, right on the money. Twist and pull and it should come right out.. Watch your hand as I just about banged my intake manifold some more

i replaced mine, but for some reason i hear a ticking sound from that area. I just replaced the pcv valve NOT the grommet. It took me couple of mins to remove the tube from the valve. when i looked at the right side of the valve, it seems like its not even. Did i do this correctly? Did I break something bc I'm hearing a ticking sound. I just had a trans tuneup and drive belt replaced at the dealer. I replaced air filter and pcv valve myself. My timing belt's not due yet bc it was replaced at 50 or 60k miles. But the mech from the dealership says its starting to leak, but not due for a change yet. What could be wrong?

Just pull and twist....it will come free, there is nothing holding it in place besides the rubber gromet... You will use the same technique putting it back in except you will be pushing and giving a little push.........just make sure the metal tabs line up right, if not no problem just do it again

Really? When I bought my PCV valve it was just one whole piece. It looked exactly like the one I pulled out, with the rubber body and all, just pull and replace. I didn't remove anything...

they said the timing belt is starting to leak a little but since they saw a sticker saying it was replaced at 50k, i dont have to replace it yet. i have 110k miles on my car already.

as for the ticking noise, i thnk it only ticks at idle, i dont exactly know where its coming from, either the belt area, or engine area. it didnt tick when i got my car back from the dealership which i replaced drive belt and trans tune up.

i heard it tick after i replaced the pcv valve. could the tick be from my valves? could it be that i pushed the valve too in or do i need to fix something else.

Well, if he replaced your belt and said "it was leaking", I'll take the guess of that being your water pump that's leaking. Ummm.. as far as the ticking, I'll say it's your valves. Take a quick searching for "ticking" and see if the other DIYs help you out.

Funny I saw this thread about ticking. I replaced my PCV valve and after driving 30 KM I hear ticking or clicking also. I have no idea but I think my problem is like yours.

my guess, and I know very little about cars, is that if you replaced the pcv valve they are spring loaded and they are opening and shutting more freely seeing as how they are new and clean from all the crap that kept the old ones from doing their job. that ticking sound might just be the spring and valve opening and closes. Just my thought.
