Canada Help me decide...

Hey everyone!

This is my first post on this forum and I would like to have your opinion. I own a 1992 Camry LE 5-Speed Manual with 215 000 kms (5SFE engine).

I bought it 2 years ago from my sister for $2000 CAN and I like this car very much so, I'm thinking about doing some modifications. The 4 cylinder engine is OK for me but I would like to have more power in this car. Here's the deal: I have found a 1992 LE V6 MANUAL 5-Speed for sale at a low price (1500$ CAN with new clutch, new 17' tires, cold air intake and tinted windows) but the body has rust. I'm interested in buying it but I just put about $3000 on my car for new brakes, new clutch, shocks, body, paint, oil pan, timing belt etc...) and I don't know if it is worth it. I know the V6 manual camrys are VERY rare but mine is more clean. Any suggestions ?

IMO i would stick with the camry that you have righ now because like you said "it's cleaner" and because having the 4cly would save you a hole lot on gas. Now for the the other V6 canry, i would not get it mainly because of the 17" wheels, Over size wheels will kill your tranny over time because bigger wheels = more force and it would also hurt gas mialage, But if you realy want the V6 and you are not that broke i would go for it but i would get rid of those 17"s.

Really ? I was going to buy new 17' or 16' rims for my car. I know it will take more force but, are you sure it can kill my tranny ? Also, can anyone tell me if there is a big difference between the I4 and the V6 for gas mileage ? thanks

The thing about the wheels is total BS. Please back it up with some data. As long as the rolling diameter of the wheel/tire package is the same, they have the correct offset and they aren't significantly heavier than the stockers, everything will be just like stock. Most problems from aftermarket wheels affect the suspension, not the transmission.

The gas mileage difference between the 4 and 6 is somewhat significant, but it might be worth it for the extra power... That's up to you.
