3rd Generation Replacing the stock 4" door speakers with 6.5"

Has anyone done this before?

I have a 1995 Camry No power Windows, and the stockers are 4"

I would like to install 6.5" speakers in those locations (because camry's with power windows house 6.5" speakers)

Has anyone attempted this?

Well my digital camera isn't working.

Basically there are two different door skins for Gen3's that I know of.

-With power windows (6.5" door speakers)
-Without power windows (4" door speakers)

I was wondering if anyone has installed 6.5's on the Other door skin?

You can always just cut the hell out the door panel until there's a hole big enough, screw the new speakers in, and use the covers/grilles that came with the new speakers then (drill pilot holes for everything, if the screw don't hold use thick glue :P).

I think I might have to do that,

problem is, I dont know yet how much stuff is behind the door skins that will get in the way.

just make sure if you install larger speakers on top of your door skins that you window winder will pass over the new grilles. (been there done that lol, diff cars though)

Yeah it's small things as mentioned, that I am trying to foresee and avoid.

I might just end up keeping the doorskins clean and stock.. perhaps purchasing a 4" replacement.

Can anyone confirm that they are indeed 4" (maybe 4.5"?)

your bro's camr must have had power windows/locks, because the door speakers would have been a direct replacement.

i'm just going to purchase the 4" speakersm for the reason that I can still use the unmodified door skin and stock grill.

It'll sound great, but still look stock and less appealing to steal

Agreed,

I went outside to start pulling off the door skin, an hour ago, and there's nothing to house a 6.5" speaker anyway, there IS a nice plastic housing that's meant for the 4" speaker, and to keep things clean and uncut, I just decided to purchase the 4" speakers.

I'm not going to make this an audio car, I just enjoy imaged music, great audio quality.

So here's what I purchased:

Infinity Kappa 42.7i for the doors

Infinity Kappa 693.7i for the rear deck

I bought the car with a fairly nice headunit, so I'll be happy with this nice little setup.

if you havewnt got them already, get 5.25" speakers, they will fit with no modifications (if you dont call new screw holes a mod),

but if youre keeping standard door trim i suggest getting some 3/4" MDF, planing it on an angle so the speakers are pointed upwards slightly on the passenger and a lot on the driver side.

the 42.7i speakers have tiltable tweeters, to angle them towards you for perfect audio imaging
