How do i normally rememdy the problem while on the road? i have to tap it light light to hard to get it loose.

My '01 does it and our '99 Chevy Silverado at my work does it too. I usually just push the top part of the pedal down then depress it. Sometimes it work sometimes it doesn't... otherwise, like you said... you goose it till it doesn't stick

My camry used to do that after it wasn't moving for a few moths, I also have a 96 and is the same color but i have a 3.0, i fixed the problem when i took off the intake manifold to replace the rear spakplugs, but when i took it apart the first thing that i noticed was theat the whole intake manifold, intake plenum and throttle bodie was all filled with brown/black carbor then i cleaned it with STP car cleaner and after i put it all together i noticed that the accelerator was a whole lot smoother than before. So i think that, that is causing your problem. I suggest that you take a peak in there by removing the hose that connects to the trottle body and open the trottle and look if it filled with carbon. if it isn't i would still remove it to clean it.

What kingd of fuel octane do you use in your camry? if you use regual 87 fuel that can cause all thatt carbon fill up in there.

Oh do you have any pics of your 3.5 engine? I would really like to see it . i tought that toyota's biggest engine for the camry was a 3.0

^ Generation 3.5

Try lubing the pedal pivot, cable and throttle linkage. Check for play in the pedal, caused by wear. You may need new hardware.

^how many miles, BigBody? My '00 does it occasionally (creeping up on 90k). I think it may be time for a good TB cleaning.

4th Generation

Clean the Throttle Body with Throttle Body/Carb Cleaner. My car did this also.

Takes 5 minutes or less. Only tool you need is a philips screwdriver to remove the clamp that attaches the intake hose to the throttle body.

My Gen 3 did that for awhile, when it was my grandmas. After lubing the pivot point it still stuck. I tend to drive it a bit harder than she did, after 1 tank of driving it hard it no longer stuck. I can't see any logical reason for this but thats what happened.

Tom 2000 is correct. This is usually caused by gummy deposits in the throttle body. This is an easy DIY fix. You need to clean the inside of the throttle body and the back side of the throttle valve inside the throttle body. Do a search on this forum for "throttle body cleaning". There is a great link somewhere with some really good pictures. It's for a V6 truck but everthing should be the same for V6's and 4 cylinders.

Thanks to you all for the input, i will definitely take a look at the throttlebody and all things part of it--including the pedal pivot, cable and throttle linkage and i just happened to have a carb cleaner (was for the lawnmower) too.

What gas and how do i drive the car? When my mom had it, she put in 89 octane and babbied it, me? i put in 87 and push her...the majority of the time, mom had it until recently

Lol...that would be neat to have a 3.5 liter... did you still want pics?

Okay for those who have similar problems here are links to the throttle body cleaning:

Throttle body cleaning

Visuals for a 3.0 ..but similar to all

Gen 3 Questions on how to apply the cleaner

Possible problem 1 ==not starting from cleaner (easy fix)

Others with problems

Will get too it if the heat gets more bearable
