O2 Sensor replacement (downstream)

Just replaced the EGR position sensor on my 99 Solara... now I've got a code for the downstream O2 sensor bank 1 sensor 2, P0136. Does it definitely need replaced or is this a side effect of the EGR sensor being replaced?

Any tips on how to replace that sensor? Never done one before; I think cutting/splicing a universal one under the car would be easier than taking the seat out to direct fit an OEM one... any thoughts?

Thanks peeps. Hoping to get through the new-car-breaking-constantly stage soon ><.

try and reset your ecu and see if the code comes back. i currently have a aftermarket for my rear bank o2 they work just fine only thing is you have to make sure the new wires dont sit too low, and you might want to have a torch near by incase it's kinda rusted/melted on.

Jsut occured to me... is there _any_ chance the wires under the seat could be loose? Do I need to take the seat/carpet out to check? *sigh* not looking forward to the carpet if that needs done, I'm never good at getting it back on straight. Thanks for the advice.

If it's like my 98 Camry 4 cylinder, the connector is under the driver's seat, not the passenger seat like the Toyota manual said it was. Look under the driver's seat by the cutout for the rear seat heating ducts. Just pull the carpet back and you should see the connector. Tie a wire to it and pull it through to the bottom of the car. Now tie the new sensor's connector to the wire and pull it back through. Incidently, I opted for the OEM Toyota sensor, since I didn't want to splice wires and the complete aftermarket sensor (with the wires and connector on it) was almost the same price as the OEM Toyota sensor. It think it was around $135.

Hmm - think I hae to pull the whole seat out, can't see anything with it on. I got the bosch universal 4 wire to do the job, I figure I can either splice it under the car, or worst case scenario, pull the seat out, then splice it out of the car and install it.

Bank 1 sensor 2 (P0136) refers to the downstream sensor, right? That's what autozone told me, so I hope they were right :P.
