V6 Gear Ratios

I'm not aware about this being true in all generation 1MZ-FE Camry's, but my Gen3 goes about 85 MPH in second f***ing gear...Unfortunately I have the automatic (5-speed not available for '94 V6) and I was wondering if there is any way to adjust the gearing. I know on a manual car, its quite easy, just lightening the flywheel. I know with shorter gears comes a lower top end, but it's not like I need to go 130 MPH! Maybe this is a dumb question, if so, please harass me. If not, please give me some useful feedback. Peace out all Camry addicts.

If you lighten the flywheel, you'll get better throttle response and a bit more vibration. That's it. It won't change your gearing. The gears on the flywheels are for your starter.

Automatic cars are geared taller than the manual counterparts, becuase the slippage in the torque convertor can sustain controlled slippage from a standstill. Becuase of this, 1st gear can be made taller than a manual transmission. And with a taller 1st, comes a taller 2nd gear...

I can go 77 MPH in 2nd on my automatic '00 4-cyl Camry. If it was a 5-speed, 2nd gear would hit redline at 57 MPH.

Other than taking apart the transaxle and changing the actual gears, there is an easier way to adjust gearing (to an extent).

If you want shorter gearing, install smaller diameter tires. If you want taller gearing installer larger diameter tires.

The downside is that your speedo is no longer accurate changing the diameter of your tires. There are other things that will go downhill too....
