Gen5 ouch!

Has anyone been experiancing excess stactic from their car body after turning off engine?
My 2003 SE 4cyl. has been giving me the shock treatment everytime I turn the car off!!!
Would a grounding belt help?

Thanks in advance....

as far as i know most new cars shouldnt generate static electricity to shock you ...

most probably, the static you are feeling is generated from yourself...

your clothes, your seat, and you, are all moving around inside the car, this causes fiction and you get static electricity, since you cant discharge this static from your body whilst inside the car, when you step outside and touch the metal surface of your car, then you discharge it that way, thus feeling the shock

That's why you should go for the leather. Unshockable.

I don't think leather helps, my mom had leather in both her camry's and it still shocked the hell out of me when I got out. It doesn't anymore though.

I sometimes get a static charge when I get out of the Camry in the cold weather. I find myself closing the door with my jacket covered arm rather than with my bare fingers. My SE seat covers genrate lots of static.

Have you recently replaced your tires? I read somewhere inexpensive tires can cause static to build up.

You might think about getting an anti-static spray. I used to have to spray my 99 once a week. I found the spray in the laundry detergent isle , in your local grocery store. After a couple of weeks of doing this I stopped having to spray and now I only get shocks in the winter/ on a very dry day, which here in Texas doesn't happen very often. Hope this helps.
