ok.....this is more for venting of my indecisive tendancies with my 98 camry. but i would love some brutal criticism about being young and ambitous!!!!!!
i still cant decide between a 5sfte or a 3sgte.
now i have realized that the potential of a 3sgte as a drag car is great. i mean, the new BEAMS 3sge (too expensive for me) is just killer. but it is also an engine swap...and any engine swap is complicated and expensive...at best, not to mention just finding a decent 3sge or 3sgte to buy. but damn...i could have all that power in my 4 door sedan!!! very appetizing.
now right now there is a perfectly fine 5sfe in my camry right now. there is a turbo kit ready for my camry for $2500. with some internal upgrades...i could be pulling 300 hp safely. and with some wet nitrous...some more hp. now it wont be as fast a 3sgte, but damn its convenient and still fun to drive.
keep in my mind...i dont care about exterior mods much at all (SLEEPER!). its the last thing on my mind. nothing but power for my ass.

Scratch the 5S-FTE idea...I'm just a poor college student, but I can wait because in a few years ill be going 600 mph 100 feet above the ground.
the turbo from burien toyota group. theyve got a turbo kit for the 5sfe. they pulling 12-14 psi i think with there mr2's 5sfte with an estimated dyno at 300hp. i just emailed them about the 5sgte project they said they were working on. keep yall informed on that.[/i]
dude a "500 hp turbo" like that one for sale would rip a stock 5sfe to shreds. i guess with upgraded internals it could work, but i dont know how well it would perform.

its called Limited Slip Differential- even power distribution to both tires.
also, if the max potential of a turbo is 500hp, then you can always run it at LOWER boost levels and still be fine. its just a matter of how big the turbo is that will affect spool time. i mean, a nice t3/04 hybrid could probably give you 500, but i dont know if youd want to try it.
given the money and time, almost anything is possible- hence The Wraith
Considering your goals, why not do up a 5SGTE? I mean the head/valvtrain would have to be upgraded to best take advantage of boost anyway, why not make life easiser and just swap on a better head, one thats designed for F/I? You may need to match some cooling passages but it shouldn't be too hard, Wraith? The Burien kit is a little overpriced IMO, it doesn't have any electronics or even an I/C but they still want $2500 for it. For the money you could buy a used 3SGTE head, oilpan, manifold and an upgraded Supra CT26 or adapter plate and T3/T4 and slap those on. Upgrade to 3SGTE injectors and mkiii Supra fuel pump. Get an AFR to tune air/fuel maps, a manual boost controller and a Supra FMIC with custom piping to tame boost. The pistons and rods would also need to be replaced with forged pieces if you want reliability. In the end you would have a 2.2L turbo'd beast, bigger displacement means you would spool sooner and have more low end torque compared to a 2.0L.
Those are my thoughts, probably still needs a little research though.

Ive actually posted a thread about 5sgte. Ive been talking to the burien toyota group who say that most any gen 5sfe can be swapped into a 5sge....because there relatively the same. But The Wraith told me its a great idea....but for a gen3. Ive got the gen4 and Wraith said it would be a lot harder due to differences in the block and stuff. Though i really like the idea of a 5sgte.....i wanna be positive that it can be done reasonably to my 98 5sfe, before i tear up my engine. I dont have nearly enough research and input to be sure that i can do the project...and i have no clue where to get the research and input.
