Camry mine neighbor next door bought.....

Mine neighboor bought a 2002 Camry LE 4 cylinder with 173000 miles for a $6000 dollars does that sound right? It is a newer body style but it has high miles.

Yeah, thats about right. Camry's hold their value really well, even though it does have pretty high miles. I wouldn't trust a car that's 3 years old and has about 60,000 put on it every year... but thats up to your neighbor.

That doesnt sound right at all. How would that be holding the value well at 6,000?

Ya, as an owner of a '98 Camry I can say that a 2002 for $6K is a friggin' steal!! And I don't care if it had 400,000 miles on it and it needed a rebuild or new engine......$6K is good.

Anyway.........I am ROTFLMAOPMP at your friggin' Frodo GIF in your sig. Had to send that to a few buddies!!!!!! LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, you can replace the engine, but just the fact that it's been driven so much also puts wear and tear on the whole car. You have the transmission, wheels, axles, etc. Also, everytime you accelerate or brake, that puts stress on the body frame. Ideally, you'd want a car like this to have mostly highway miles, since if it were city miles, the wear and tear from braking and accelerating does take a toll. I still find it amazing that some people drive this much - it comes out to an average of about 160 miles every single day!

You make a good point about it being better if it is highway miles. But think about it, these have to be highway miles. There is almost no way on earth a person could drive that much if it is all city driving. I would rather have a 3 year old car with 160k miles than a 10 year old car with 30k miles. I have already been there. Bought a Toyotta 4x4 with very low miles for the year and within the first year had to replace the timng chain and rebuild the engine. More than likely it has been well cared for and all, it seems the higher mileage cars are anyway, so it should be good for another 100k miles or so.

I think the only way it could be city miles is if you drive for a living, maybe like a taxi or delivery service. Don't remember where, but I've seen a yellow Camry.

He bought the car from the salesman and all of the miles are highway. The guy was driving all over the country and he bought the new Cadillac CTS which will probably have that many miles in 3 years.
