2nd Generation Problem with the Auto Choke

Ok i've done a search fo this, and cannot find a thing so i thought i'd ask.

Currently i have a 89 cs camry, and i'm haveing a problem with the carburetor. The accelerator kept getting stuck full open, after finding the cable freyed i replaced it. lol typical it wasn't it, just needed some lube . But either way i had to replace the cable.

But on to my problem, it kinda idles a little lower than usual, i know i need to adjust the idle knob, but it won't auto choke, i start the car and instead of sitting at 2500 rpm for 5 or so minutes to warm it up, it stays at 1000, its normal rpm. Anyone with experience in carby engines i could use some help, it gets cold down here in melbourne, and its hard to start in the morning.

Thanks all.

I have worked on a few carbs (carter, rochester, holley, edelbrock) but the only one that i've done a complete overhaul on was a Rochester 4bbl Spreadbore Q-Jet

It was an electric choke, but the concept is the same weather it's electric or manual.

When cold, the carbs choke door should be closed, thus giving you a fairly rich condition.
When your typical choke (a coiled bi-metal strip) heats up as the engine warms up, it turns a drop cam which pulls on linkage, turning the choke valve to the open position.

I wish I could take some pictures.

If you haven't bought a hanes carb manual or hanes manual for your car yet, i would suggest that.

The manual should have pictorial procedures on adjusting and checking all the components of your choke/idle system.

i have the hanes manual for the car, but makes no reference to the choke, maybe coz there arn't many out there i dunno, its has a reference to the auto choke, and no info on it.

I think i can survive without it, and after a while i'll overhaul the carb
