any and all thoughts please, engine trouble....

ok, i'm gonna start this off by saying that i don't even know where to begin a search without having to weed through ten million other things that have nothing to do with this....

so that being said....if you're gonna flame, DON'T post please.

On to the problem....

on a cold start this morning i pushed the clutch, turned the key and the engine turned over started and promptly stopped it seemed like an extremely rough idle in the split second that it actually ran.

anyone got a clue or a link that has a clue?

oh, it's a 1996 coupe 5sfe 5spd with 155,000 miles on it, basically well maintained

I was thinking maybe dirty injectors, or maybe the fuel filter...but i would like to hear some other thoughts before i start messing with stuff.

Yea start with the basics, and also check for a vacuum leak. and also check that your fuel pump works, that usually happens when the fuel pump is dead.

thanks for the input, i think the fuel pump is ok, cuz i just went out and tried it, and i stepped on the gas right when it wanted to start and it ran while i held the gas in a little bit. then after about 20 sec i let off and the car stayed running....this was later in the day, not early morning like when it wouldn't start....

A dying fuel pump will behave erratically.

like running when it's warm and being a jerk when it's cold and humid?
