Hey guys, i just bought a 99 4 cyl 2.2L camry with 82000 miles on it. I just got it and the other day i was driving and i turned into work and the car just shut off when i was turning i was going about 5mph when i turned. So we took it into the Shop and they replaced the EGR valve. So on my way home from the shop i breaked at a light and the car started shaking and the idle dropped and was boucning between 200 and 500 rpm just fluxuating there for awhile then it went away. Then i pulled into my driveway and it felt like i almost lost power steering but it didnt and and it was doing the idle thing again. My Toyota dealer just replaced the EGR valve now its back in the shop AGAIN. I dont know what it is some ppl say to clean the Throttle Body valve right there when u take off the air intake hose. I have been reading about other valves that may cause it to do this. Can anyone help me? I am a 22 year old college student i bought this car right before school starts thinking it will be reliable i dont have much money and college starts for me in a 2 weeks. ANY help would be appreciated. Thank you! oh and it only stalled once. But it shakes and brakes pulsate and stuff whenever it happens i am going slow. Thanks! Oh there is also alot of black in the tailpipe but it is not burning oil it runs beautiful when its going like 35 or freeway but its only when i stop and its not all the time just once in awhile. Idk what the black is from some cars have it some dont. Is it the fuel the previous owner used? How can i make this black stuff stop i think its carbon.
look up SEAFOAM , in the search for this forum. There will be steps to take to clean you intake. Also , go to Autozone and have them read your computer to see if there are any codes. The only other thing I can think of is to get a tune up.(Spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor.)
For plugs and stuff, you might try this place. http://www.toyotaworld.com/
they are pretty cheap and they are a dealer.
Try replacing your ECT sensor. If the ECT is bad it will send cold temp to the ECU even though the engine is already warm or hot causing too much gas to the intake and causes to hesitate and stall at low rpm.
My '98 does this too, though it never completely stalls. It never does it cold, but during summer when the temps are hot, it'll do this every so often. If I keep revving it slightly, it'll get back to 800-ish, but if I leave it alone I can watch that tach bounce right around 200rpm and it's just dyin' to stall, but it won't.
Oh, and even if I turn on the A/C it won't kick it up......(at least not right away).
I've had mine immaculately serviced so I'm confused as to what it could be.
ok, the mechanic called this morning He said it is the Idle Air Control Motor.. He said it does the stalling thing when he even taps on the motor! So they are going to replace that motor at the Toyota Dealership then Hopefully it wont do it anymore! Ill update again if this is the fixed problem but the mechanic is sure that this is what it is this time.

That's a quick $500 there... and most of the IAC needs only cleaning except if it get wet and shorted out.

If it's the AIC valve , you should try to clean it first. Check this forum for the procedure, is extremely simple and could save you same money.
