Looking to buy a 03-05 camry. I have seen a few and driven a 03 and a 05. The 05 seemed to be quiter. Is the 05 quiter then the 03 or was my brain playing tricks? From what I have gathered the 05 has about 20 more hp. Is this correct? Both cars were 4cyl LE. The 03 is a one owner with very low KM[33,000]. The 05 is a lease back with 22,000km. Being a lease back kind of has me leary even though it was lots of warrenty left. Also I have noticed some posts on here taking about a GEN 5.5. What is that about?
An 02-04 Camry is a Gen 5. An 05 Camry is a Gen 5.5. Same body style with slight modifications. As far as being quieter, it depends on what condition the tires of either car were. The less tread on the tires, the more road noise. As far as 20 more HP, that is incorrect. The engines for all 4cyl Gen 5s and 5.5s are the 2AZ-FE DOHC 157HP engine.

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.
That's not the only thing that's changed. If you click on the link I just posted, it lists all the NEW standard features on the 2005. Which means, these aren't available on the 2002-2004 camrys.
Thanks guys for the info. Yes the 03 had tires that were more worn that the 05. All of the 05s I have looked at did not have radio controls on the steering wheel. All have had keyless entry though. The radio controls may be a US spec item. Or perhaps available on high trim levels. I have only looked at the LE 4cyl.

That is the car i have, the LE I4 and i have audio controls on the wheel. they should be standard and maybe the dealership would install them afterwards

Yes, the audio controls are standard on all the Camry models in the US. I don't know why you guys in Canada don't have them. They should because all the new Toyotas come with them standard now. You Canadians sure miss out a lot of good stuff. I feel you.
Weird, I was looking at the Canadian Camry and it is different in many ways from the US one. Guages are differet, smaller gas tank, no XLE I4 or STD model, can't get leater on LE or LE V6. But it does says Steering wheel audio controls standard

Gauges looked the same to me other then the canuck spec model is in KM/H The gas tank diff would be the US spec is in US gallons, the canadian spec is in liters and imperial gallons. They do list different #s for the hp and torque. US 154hp at 5700 and 160lb-ft at 4000rpm. Canadian- 160hp at 5700 and 163lb-ft at 4000rpm.
I will go look tomorrow again to about the radio controls. Maybe I was blind
This is the thread I got the info about the 02-04 hp and the 05 being different. Can just be assumed incorrect? http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t88873.html

Ah, correct about the gas tank size, my bad. The difference with the guages is the ones in my moms US LE I4 is it has white guages, while the ones i saw for Canada are orangy. I may be wrong though.
The '06 Camry dropped significantly in HP due to new testing, even though it is the SAME CAR. Still don't understand it fully though.

Yes, its wrong. In the topic, they were talking about the 4cyl Gen 5 having 145 HP. That is totally incorrect. The 2AZ engine has 157HP stock. The gen 5 and 5.5 4cyl engines are the same.
