exhaust play

ok...so i was looking at my exhaust pipe, and there is a lot of play in it. it seems like there would be a clamp, but there isnt one for the whole back section of the pipe. there is one for the muffler, but there isnt one for the whole 6 feet of in between section. to clarify, from the engine and the downpipe, its fine, but after the catylitic converter, there isnt, and there is nearly 2 inch of wiggle/play. how many supports are there supposed to be? any one with pictures or anything like that, would help me greatly!

you have a gen3 camry right?

um i dunno bout the gen3 well on the gen4 exhaust piping is hung like you said. checked mine in the middle near the resonator and a little bit of movement is normal. your muffler will have "play" because of the rubber mounts that connect the hangers. if you didnt have so called play you would get mad vibrations

get new rubber muffler hangers if yours are fucked, if not, then dont. there is nothing between the front and muffler... on v6's there is a hanger just b4 the cat, but even i dont have that anymore. my whole exhasut hangs off the engine and muffler hangers, nothing in between.

alright...thanks for the info everyone. it seems odd that the exhaust just kinda hangs though. my friends volvo has a hanger/bracket almost every 2 feet.
