Gen5 Front Speakers change

Hello everybody, I thought i would post pics of my new front speakers and the process.

This is 1/2" MDF $5.97 Home depot. Cut out the Mounting Bracker for the front speakers, now i need the MDF rings, where i will mount the speakers, and this will also give me more depth.

Here im cutting out the inner circles of the MDF Rings.

Here i a preview of them both put together...( If you are wondering why i did this, its so that i could get the dept that i needed.

In this image i have glues the 2 pieces of MDF together with Elmers wood glue and the screwed them together to ensure a tight bond, and will help reduce rattle in the future.

The MDF's painted with a sealer, to prevent moisture from getting to the MDF. This was the 3rd layer.

Picture of the mounting

Since i was worried about moisture i went ahead and put a coat of Elmers Wood Glue ontop of the sealing paint as an added protection.

The Final Product

Let me know what you guys think..

Lastly here is a picture of the Amp install. The wood is there to allow air to flow underneat and keep it cool, its also there to prevent the amp from moving when i make turns, and lastly its there to make it harder to steal the amp.

yes, but is a little harder b/c you want to cut the inner diamater not the external which is the one that you can draw.

What you do is;
1. Draw the 6.5" speaker on the MDF Around the speaker (outer Diamater)
2. Measure from Left to Right, and find the mid point, Make a mark
3. Measure from Top to Bottom, find the mid point, and aligne it with the previous mark (this will insure that you are prefectrly in the center)
4. Find out what the inner diamater is.. the box should tell you if not then look it up on the web.
5. Now take the above number and half it this is what you want to set you compass too, If you don't have a compass then you will have to measure using a ruler and go round and round until you make the circle. Since i don't have one, what i did was take my ruler and made marks at the points all around and then connected the dots.
6. In order to get a saw of any type in the center to cut along the inner diamater, you are going to need to use a drill or router and make a hole that is large enough for the blade to fit.
7. Once the blade fits cut out the inner circle. Remeber if you make it smaller you can easily fix, by sanding or more cutting. But if you make the whole too large, you will be unalbe to screw the speaker into place. So just take your time with it.
8. YOUR DONE... with the cutting.
9. Glue the two pieces together, let it sit, and them screw the pices together to ensure a secure hold between the 2 pieces. I say put in 5~8 screws in a star formation, you might find that 4 is not enough like i did. When i screwed the speaker in place, the MDR ring kinda split, I solved the problem by putting in a screw there and sealing it with wood glue... So that is the reason for 5~8 screws.just make sure that you leave space to mount the speaker.
10. Since its going in the door, I really recommend that you get some sort of sealer, I used a spray based paint, only b/c i really didn't feel like buying paint brush, thiner, etc. spray was more convinient.. But if you want to paint it on i suggest using fiber glass resin... only b/c i will also make the MDF stiffer and that should help with the bass.

If you need more help let me know... But i think you should be able to get it all done now.
