I just bought a 1998 2.2L Camry and am looking to upgrade it performance-wise. I was looking at some Venom 400 performance chips, but $340 sounds a little too much and I dont know what to expect. I am also looking at making myself a CAI and I dont know how to make it for my Camry, it's not like the one I made for my Lumina, if there is somewhere in this forum that someone explained how to do it, it would be great if you could point me in the right direction. If there are any other upgrades for performance that aren't too much money (besides exhaust), please let me know.

125 front wheel horsepower with major retard issues between 4500-5200RPM -
OD switched off, even when not in 3rd results in major power loss/rpm drop.
what do you recommend me get if the Venom isnt worth buying?
Apex SAFC, but you won't get huge gains out of it. Do bigger mods first then get piggy back systems a little later.

I dont really wanna put exhaust on my Camry, so that is out. I will be in college in September full-time and doing an internship, so headers are prob. out of the question. I was looking at ignition cables and spark plugs and wires also. As for the intake, I was a CAI, but I cant find any/cant find how to make my own either.
Cool. thanks. I found in the FAQ how to install the CAI. It looks like a lot of work to put in a CAI with all the sensors and whatnot. Ive thought about it again and I think Im going to spend the money that I was saving for a chip on tint or something like that. Im getting an alarm installed and the Eclipse 5444 from my old car put in. I dont really want another system, it just got boring and expensive, and I dont want to put an exhaust on it because the neighborhood hated the exhaust on my Lumina, it was freakin loud. I think I will just get an intake if its not too hard and tint done to it.
