Hey. ive been searching around here for some instructions on how to replace my rear 6x9 stock speakers with a pair of infinitys im purchasing off of ebay. I realize i can pay someone to do it...but if its a DIY project than i'd like to give it a shot.
Just in case....I've got a 1998 Camry XLE V6...and i dont believe i have an amp installed from the factory so i shouldnt need an amp for my new speakers (if what people told me is correct).
Thanks for any help you can offer me! If there is a post with pictures etc of the process you could link me to i'd REALLY appreciate it!
About the part for amps, do you have a large system or is your car just a headunit and speakers? If its just a headunit and speakers dont bother with an amp for the speakers, its pointless. The Camry sounds great as it is, buying an amp would be a waste of money in my opinion
fold down rear seat, theres 2 nuts covered with plastic covers, take them off.
remove middle brake light housing.
yank really hard to get the parcel shelf out
yank out old speakers, put new ones in drill and screw in
go reverse order
and its back together.

Well all i have now is a stock cd/radio/tape system and stock harmon-motive 20 watt rear speakers. The only reason i wish to change them out is i need better highs and possibly a little better lows. Therefore i am hoping thats what infinity can offer me.
BTW...my right passenger door panel seems be be a bit loose perhaps. There is a piece of i guess clearish/darkyellow paper i can see which vibrates and makes little paperflapping noises during certain songs with bass...do i just need to tighten my panel screws or should i try something else?

wow thanks i guess i'll have to give it a shot tomorrow...although im a bit hesitant to 'yank really hard' on any parts as it'd cost me more to replace a broken deck than to get my speakers pro. installed.
DUde get the AMP I have two JL's in my camry I have the 300/4 and 500/1 and the stock sysetm overal in my opinion sucks....it does not sound that great.....buy some good rear speakers and good set of components for the front and you should be ok
OH and on the side note when I installed my front components I really did not have to install brackets for the front or for the rear deck. I just droppped the rear 6x9's and bolted them in and for the front I had to drill on the metal but I put some silicon so they wont rattle but since my front components won't play and lows I only have highs and mids going to them.
If you like I can take some picture of my speaker install just pm me....
hmm thanks for the suggestions. I'd love more than nothing to just redo my whole car system etc...but my wallet (as of right now) doesnt stretch very far. And i'll probably get a highlander in a year or two. So im just hoping that getting new rear speakers will do me fine. I may need to take apart my passenger door pannel to see if i can fix that darned plastic wrapper rattling sound...its making my car sound like its loose!
The ones im getting are these... (not for that price of course) http://www.infinitysystems.com/caraudio/product.aspx?ProdId='REF9612I'&Ser=REF&Cat=MEL
Actually Alpine Type-S or type R's are equavalent or better in my opinion...you can go to your local audio shop and listen for your self to each speakers....every one hears differently.....Alpine is another suggesting you can go with, you can get them dirt cheap on ebay!
hmmm i can go check those out. I actually dont think any of my local shops carry alpine although i know thats another large namebrand in the industry. so far the place ive gone to have suggested infinity for good high/mid/low sound quality...but i guess since it seems like a lot of you guys have alpines i can give those a shot. But will they still sound good if i keep the stock stuff up in front?
The 3 ways look good to me...but like I said If you know anyone or find a little shop that have these speakers or somewhere near them go ahead and listen to as many speakers you can and only YOU can make that judgement on which sound good to you
From my experience the Infinity's are great sounding speakers my brother has a pair of 6.5 in the front of his galant and they sound very clean from the factory Head Unit...if amplified i bet they would sound very loud and clear....
As for the stock up in front it will balance out since you will not have an amp setup but you will hear more clarity and little more bass in the rear. I did that setup when I bought my 6x9 first them after once I got some money I installed some component set for my front....and then amp....
