4th Generation when do the factory struts go?

I've got about 99,000 miles on my '98, and it's starting ride a little hard. Is this about the time the OEM struts give out?

its stirange.. most struts are only rated between 50-80k anyway but most ppl never change em in the whole life of their cars.

Yeah normally they will tell you sometime between 50-80k. so it may be time to upgrade or at least go with OEM style

I would agree with most above. My '98's I think started goin' at around 30,000 miles.......(hard to even tell).........and since the ride is so "floaty" anyway and they're surrounded by springs (the real workhorse of the deal anyhow) I don't know how anyone would necessarily be able to say, "Yup, they're goin' away" 'cuz it floated then & it floatw now. Float, float, float like a boat! (but I do like the floaty ride)

I now have 108,000 miles and I haven't changed 'em yet & unless I get REEEEEEALLY motivated some time in the future........I doubt I ever will!!!!!

It is interesting because struts and one of those things ud never think of replacing..i think i have to myself, as i think mine are original. I was thinking of the Tokiko's from the US, which are apparently better? How can strut be better than another, like the stock ones? What about them makes them better?
Thanks

Since we're on the subject........I'll prod for folks who know more than I on the matter.......

I was once going to do struts on my wife's old car. (Rears were shocks, so I changed those out in about 20 minutes).

So I went down & bought the struts and even rented the compression tool to do 'em and when I got home, I looked things over & decided......."Ya, I think I can do this"!

Then my neighbor came over & said....... "WTF are you doin'??? You can break an arm screwin' w/ struts!!! Take it down to Pep Boys & let 'em do it!!" So I did.

Now..........does anybody know (On Gen 4 in particular) if they're easy enough to do on one's own??

Are the rears easier than the fronts???

Can new struts do anything NOTICEABLE without changing the springs too??

(Obviously a nice suspension change can be had for about $1K-$2K but my cheap ass has noooooooooooooooo problem NEVER changing the struts EVER!!!!!!!!!)
