4th Generation changing ps belt

got an 01 LE 4cyl and i was trying to change the ps belt the other day but i couldn't find the bolt to loosen the ps pump. the haynes manual i got doesn't show a picture, just tells you to do it.

anyone got a pic of where that bolt is? do you have to get at it from under the car?

thanks!

you definitely need to be under the car and you'll need to remove your accessory belt as well (which will require you to loosen the alternator bracket, which has a tightening screw and an adjusting screw on it).

the 2 ps pump has just a tightening screw, you have to manually press it to pressure before tightening it in place. I suggest doing what I did to retighten it (I put an underdrive pulley on when I did this, but you'll need to do just about everything I did except remove the pulley itself):

jack the front of the car up, remove the passenger side left wheel, remove the plastic apron that covers the timing marks and everything, this will give you better access to the ps pump and everything. now loosen the alternator bracket and loosen the tensioning bolt until you can slip the belt off the accessory pulleys.

next go over and loosen the power steering pump bolt (it's kind of far back and a bitch to get, use your breaker bar or a long socket... it'll be tight too)

for tightening it back up, have someone stand on top of the car and press it back with a crow-bar while you tighten it. good luck.

I am assuming you are talking about 5S-FE engin, right?

With 5S-FE engine, you can't even access the PS pump via the hood. It has to be under the car... Care the explain?? Stand on top of the car????

Have you ever changed your PS belt before, ASM?
If you did, you'd realize that you can wedge a long crowbar (pick type) through in front of the dogbone and have push back the ps pump.

The project of tightening it requires you to have one person from above and one from underneath.

vtek, it's no problem, let me know how you make out.
