What I have been up to recently...

I am sure a lot of you heard about my constant problems with my quest to engine management for the 1MZ-FE...

I went through a couple of systems only to find out that none of the EMS companies out there make a reliable ECU for daily driving and perfectly streetability with a competitive price. The maps available for tuning just isn't enough for a dependable daily driver type of reliability. My goal is the make the car fully streetable and take it out whenever I want.

Long story short, at my current situation, seems like only Motec will do the job properly. Full tuneable maps for all weather conditions, great cold-start tuning, very good sensor feedbacks for troubleshooting, etc... Well, $4000+ doesn't seem to appetizing with all the features I need...

The only other standalones that I had good experience was the ones on my Integra -- I first had an APEXi PowerFC which worked surprisingly well for over 3 years. After I went boost with the Integra, I switched to the AEM standalone EMS about a year ago. The AEM was also a great unit with great flexibility and reliability. Well, that's just Honda though. Don't we wish that AEM would make a PnP standalone for the 1MZ-FE?

That will never come true, so what did I do? I somehow "mashed" the AEM that was meant for a Honda into my Camry I am currently tuning the car and oh man, since I am trained to tune an AEM, this was like home sweet home for me. I also manage to get full automatic transmission control so I get shift retard, and of course, fully mapable shift points and gear lock-up, etc...

Here's the progress:
.
.
.
Power centre for my fuel pumps, ignition system etc..

.
.
.
.
.
AEM hooked up:

It's been a long journey... Hope I can really get the car running the way I wanted to ASAP

Sweet! How'd you "mash" the AEM into the Camry? A whole lot of rewire? Keep us updated

Thanks for the compliments... I really liked the AEM's software and being able to control the automatic transmission was gold. From my experience, the AEM was definitely reliable and can be used on a real daily driven car.

It's more than just wiring unfortunately... So it's not something you would want to do unless you really need a standalone. I had to program the AEM to accept the factory cam sensor, and the crank trigger had to be made to accomodate the AEM. I still have the stock ECU intact to drive the dash, A/C, etc... but sooner or later I will completely eliminate the ECU just to clean things up a bit

Megasquirt/Megaspark? Haha, I work in the tuning business and I wouldn't touch that thing with a 10ft pole.
