215mm or 225mm is the widest I would go.

^ yeah, but 235 on a 7" rim wouldn't be a good idea....

go either 215/50 or 225/45

3rd Generation

I have 215/45 R17 on 17x7.5 with a 35mm offset. There is a little rubbing with 4-5 passengers but you should be fine @40mm. I've had Toyo Proxes FZ4, Yokohama AVS ES100, and now BF Goodrich g-Force Sports and I am definitely more than happy with the performance of the g-Force Sports. The Toyos lasted long but did not handle well, the Yokos were the opposite and handled well but lasted 10,000-15,000 miles and my new tires stick like glue and have gone 15,000 miles with another 15,000 or more to go.

The price is good and user reviews on Tirerack show how great these tires are.
