UK question on brakes... again

CAR: 1998 Camry LE 2.2L
BRAKE SET: 2 Front Discs 2 Rear Drums

I had the front rotors trued the other day. I checked the ceramic pads to see how much wear was on them but they really had a bunch of miles left on them so I just put them back on. Should it take a certain amount miles for the brakes to settle true to the resurfaced discs? There is an odd noise when I am going reallly slow, but the car stops very smoothly... the noise could be a regular brake noise but it goes and comes as the wheel is turning very slowly (like the noise occurs everytime the rotor goes round), as if i were pulling to a light like grandpa.

I seriously doubt the calipers were put back together wrong otherwise the car wouldn't brake as quietly and smoothly as it did. *(that noise is only faint and only when finishing the stop...slowly; probably a regular noise but I'm probably crazy )* Thats why I haven't ripped everything apart just to look.

did you use anti-seize compound on the back of the pads before you reinstalled them?

nope, I guess we'll see how it goes without. I dunno if thats something mandatory, I've done the brakes like that on my last VW and Honda without any problems.

err, I meant anti-squeel, not anti-seize, I apologize.

The squeel you're likely hearing is the result of the pad vibrating on the caliper's piston while braking. The compound on the back of the pad is very gummy/sticky and will prevent it from vibrating.

I don't think it'll hurt anything, but you may get the brake chrip.

It's really cheap and only slightly time consuming to fix. Just the cost of brake fluid and the compound (probably under $10 for both)

It's a benign noise. It can be real irritating though. If you want to eliminate the noise, just get a can of "spray disk brake quiet" (about $5) and take the pads off one side at a time, keeping them oriented as to which pad came from which side of the caliper (piston side or non-piston side). Just spray the stuff on the backs of the pads and let it set up for 5 or 10 minutes. Then put the pads back on the same side of the caliper they were originally on. The only downside is it's almost impossible to keep the stuff from getting on to your hands. The can will last for many years and many brake jobs.
