60k maintainance suggestions

Hi
I have a 1997 camry with 60k original miles. It runs good and going to have a 60k checkup. I am wondering particularly about the timing belt if it should b replaced and what to expect cost-wise. It is the 4 cyl. And any other items to be concerned about at the 60k mark.
Thanks

At 60k miles it is possible you will have to replace the water pump, cam seal crank seal, tensioner and idler. I said possibly. FI you are in there having the timing belt replaced jsut make sure they check all of taht stuff. As far as price I know here in Middle Tennessee you can have the belt only done for about 200.00 or so at the dealer, they are always sending out coupons for it it seems like. If you have all the other stuff done you are probably looking to get in to the high 400's to low500's. There again guessing. I just had the water pump, timing belt, cam seals, nad crank seal replaced on my 94 V6 and the total bill would have come to about 460.00 or so if my warranty didnt cover it. As far as any other maintenance jsut your normal fluids and filter changes. Maybe spark plugs, fuel filter, trans service, coolant drain and refill or flush. Chekc your local dealers ebsite and see waht you can come up with as far as coupons, like I said our local ones are always running ads for that kind of stuff.

for my 60k service i did....

plugs and wires
transmission fluid flush (not drain/fill)
oil and filter change
new pcv valve
radiator flush
cleaned battery terminals
air filter service (k&n)
fuel filter (not really necessary at 60)
throttle body cleaning
seafoam treatment

you can do almost all of these yourself and save a ton of money.

Ya, the timing belt is the big one. Most everything else is fairly easy, but taking that whole front cover off and doing the timing belt is a whole nother deal.

I'd say that since yours is a '97, you're right there on miles (my '98 belt started slappin' the guard at about 80,000) and you're a year older than mine so considering that the belt is aged, I'd say it's good time to get all that stuff done. Do exactly what was listed above.

Belt
Water pump
thermostat
Cam seal
Crank seal
Flush/fill entire cooling system & make sure they put Toyota RED coolant back in there to get off to a good start with your new pump & thermostat. (Trust me when I say that they won't unless you tell them to and I think it's a travesty that regular green coolant is even allowed into a Toyota dealership, but they are as slimy as the next dealer so you have to watch your own ass)

That should about do it. Once all those are done, that front cover doesn't have to come off again for at least another 60,000 miles. You'll have great peace of mind and your only other concern for a long while will be fluids.

You can have 'em check your regular belts & hoses too, but you're probably still fine 'til about 100,000 on those. You can have 'em change 'em or not, it's up to you.

first take it out...it goes from the top of your valve cover to your intake plenulum *however you spell that*

and just give it s minor shake, it you still feel someting lose and clinking around...it still good. Another test is blow through it and the little hose...you should be able to pass air through it
