Like a fart can.
Good exhaust sound is deep and low which you need a good muffler to remove the high freq. Get a big highflow resonator and big muffler. Usually small muffer has less sound absorbing material and give high freq note, unless its a good quaility one.
My 2vz sounds pretty good without a muffler, just loud. It's loud at idle and has a bad drone about 2krpm though. I don't know about power, i just ook mine off because it had rusted and made an annoying banging sound.
My dad's truck hasn't had anything past the cat on it for like 5 years
Depends on the engine...
A 4cyl, IMO, typically sounds crap. Tinny, farty and annoying.
However, my 2VZ sounds FRIGGN AWESOME without and mufflers (or pipes for that matter, straight out the extractors LOL)..like a race car or something. Truly, it was a sweet sound.
Also, some V8's, especially at hi-rpm sound great, but of course loud!
Do what I did, just get your muffler flanged, and go for a spin now and again without it. It'll be loud as,..but meh...very fun!

illegal sorta and depending on the states. here in florida we have no emission testing so who's gonna know?
Wrong. While us Floridians don't have emmisions problems, I was pulled over in my old Buick Century I4 cause he heard me coming half a mile away. I could tell when my parents were getting home cause I heard them coming.
