4th Generation Quick question: V6 oil capacity

How much oil does the 99 V6 hold? Changing the girlfriend's oil soon and she doesnt have the manual anymore. Also, what weight oil do you find is best? Her car gets driven very sporadicly, sometimes it sits for a week, other times its driven every day. 1000 mile road trip soon and it's coming up on 100k so I want to keep things running smoothly.

Thanks.

5 quarts of oil i believe.

toyota uses 5w-30 which seems to be fine for general conditions, and i think its fine if it sits for a bit since its not really thick.

It should be 5. I think 5W-30 or 10W-30 will be fine. I use 5W-30.

why does Toyota recommend 5W-30 for the engine?

is it ok to use 10W-30 for me because it never gets to freezing levels where i live. is it better to use it for me?

I think that's because you get slightly better gas mileage with 5W-30. IIRC, that's what I read here.

I don't know if it's better because I'm here in Chicago and I use either 5 or 10, but only 10 if 5 is out of stock at the store.

Is that for the engine? Are you factoring the small amount to fill the oil filter?

^no, that's not for the engine....I think the engine's somewhere around 8L or so...?

a bit less than 5 is what you get when you drain the pan and the filter

5 quarts is too much. The manual says 4.6-4.7 with the filter

I just put 5 quarts in and it hasn't hurt it.

Super Kaioken, I see you're in Biloxi. I know a guy named Rain (yes, that is his real name) that has two Corvette's. Ever see him around town?

My 3vz-fe took approx 7.5 quarts to fill after full rebiuld and baked engine block, if i rembmer correctly, otherwise, it takes 5qts for simple oil change + oil filter
