I know it's been done to death and back quite a few times, but I have a s/c question. Please don't kill me.
Theoretically, if I had a 1MZFE from a Gen4 Camry or Solara, would I be able to supercharge my '95 V6? Would clearance be an issue? I know I've read a response (by Ratko I think) saying this would be pretty much useless, since they're both 1MZFE's. Gibson was innovative and I commend him for superchargin his gen3, but if I were to ever do it, I'd want a fully functional car at the same time. As far as I know, a supercharged Gen4 presents no problems...and since they use the same auto V6 tranny, I don't see any other difference. Anything wrong with my assumption? [/b]
I thought so too...until I asked about it on teamsc3 and they said stuff like his a/c wasn't working, and a few other things. I can't find the post anymore...but yeah...the impression I got from them was that the boost was one of the few things working. Can anyone help out here?
yeah....now there's only one way for us to go..... turbo!
or as people have discussed before....it's too much trouble to run just a single turbo on our v6's cuz of the formation of the cylinders, so we have to go.....TWIN turbo!!!
hahaha......ahhhhh.....now if I only had like, 10 grand to spend on the turbos, an intercooler, the tranny swap, the custom work, the...this, the that....and so on and so forth........

Gibson (if it's the same SC3 guy) had/has the 1st gen S/C unit. The newer one (gen2) sits lower in the engine bay, and is supposed to be much more reliable. Best thing to do is to contact West Covina Sport Toyota. They should be able to answer your questions. If you have a Gen4 motor it is a direct bolt on. You'll have to ask about your Gen3 though.
The 1st generation S/C was only a prototype that TRD advertised in their cars, it had the silver finish on the S/C plenum. The released version is the one that everyone has, with a black finish. Yes, Gibson did retrofit the S/C on his '95 1MZFE, however, the EGR pipe does NOT connect up, low idling when standing still, car dies when A/C is turned on, may be a few more symptoms. If you want to spend, say, $2500 USD for a new kit, then definitely budget in a couple more hundred to get the symptoms fixed, so it could be in excess of $3000 after all is done.
Actually, my question was concerning this. I was wondering (hypothetically) if I swapped in a 1997 or newer 1MZ-FE into my '95 Camry, would I still have the same s/c problems if I tried to s/c my 1995 1MZ-FE.
If you swap any 1MZFE w/ECU from '97-'01 Camry or '99-'02 Solara into your Gen3, then you should have NO problems. I'm not sure if the transmission need to be swapped also (perhaps not), but worth looking into it.

1) YES you can swap a 97+ 1MZFE into a gen3. My mechanic did it in one of his own camrys and it was fine.. Motor + ECU + exhaust manifolds and he was all set. Trannys are interchangable.
2) If you have a 96 Camry V6, then it WILL have a 97+ 1MZFE engine like in the Gen4s. So your chances of getting the S/C working are better than Jason Gibsons.
