Question reg taking a NJ Camry to CA

Can I still keep my car after taking it to CA without doing any emission/exhaust mods ? Mine is a 1991 V6 Camry Wagon and I think its NOT the CA edition. Any inputs ? Thanks. --s

I'm pretty sure if you wish to register the car in California it will have to pass their inspection and all the emissions equipment that goes with it.

Any mods you have done might also fail your inspection depending on what those mods consist of.

Just register it in CA, and if you run into any trouble, just find a crooked shop that'll pass you no matter what, and give you the sticker.

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.

You will be required to pass minimum federal requirements but you will not be required to have CA emmissions which is stricter. Just need to register the car as a out of state manufacture/purchase. Any mods that changed federal emissions requirements will need to be removed unless you find a crooked shop.

So if I decided to move to Cali I could buy a car without CA restrictions (less hp due to stricter exhaust laws) and I could register it in Cali after I moved there?

Wow... That's cool.

Gotta have a certain amount of miles on it first. Don't remember the exact requirements. Found this out when I was inquiring about a VW Golf TDI. Can't get the turbo diesel in CA so I was thinking of buying it in AZ and having my father drive it for the required mileage. Try www.dmv.ca.gov for info.

I ended up getting a Camry instead.
