I got rear ended today on the interstate, bout 30-40mph.
The other car's front end hit my bumper
Bumper is still intact.
Scratches on the bumper and the other's car paint was all over my bumper.
The other car was a mid size 2006 kia (rental car).
I called 911 and they asked if they needed to send an ambulance, cop or if not, just exchange info and go make a police report within 24 hrs.
I have comprehensive insurance and am paying $1400/year for this car and $600 for
I would like to get it fixed if possible.
Question
1) cost of respraying bumper at toyota dealership or new bumper from toyota.
2) should i make a police report and will that cause my insurance to go up?
3) will filling a claim or reporting it to the insurance company cause my rate to go up if i am INNOCENT.
Normally getting rearended means that the person who hit you is at fault. For not paying attention and/or traveling at the correct distance away from your car.
Normally when cops arrive if you want to go through insurance they will speculate in their reports who was at fault.
I'm not 100% on this but i don't think that fileing a police report will cause you insurance to go up...I don't think they contact your insurance company to let them know you've been in an acident But why file a police report when you are not looking to take any action?
In FL when you get into a fender pender (i believe you case) they give you 3 options, Cops can do nothing about it, they can write a trade of information, or they can write an official police report.
The trade of information is just that, the cop takes your DL and car info as well as that of the other drivers and issues you both a copy so that you can contact eachother.
Here is what i posted for somebody else as to find cam parts, unfortunatly i don't know how much it would cost for paint... When i got into my fender bender, i picted the shop with the most number of cars waiting to be fixed. (I use this technique when i want to eat food, i always pic places with a line out the door, not the empty ones.)
1) File the police report. Your insurance rate may depend on that.
2) File a claim with your insurance. They will collect the money from her insurance.
3) Not your fault, insurance should not go up. If it does you should change companies as they should not increase rates for something that is not your fault.
4) Let the repair shop decide whether it is better to replace or repaint your bumper. Replacement bumper might need to be painted anyhow and if they do have one with the same color code, it will be a slightly different shade due to sun fading/aging of the paint on your car.
I will call my insurance company tonnite and see if they will increase my rate.
Am with GEICO and will get back to you guys
Use to be with GEICO. They're pretty good and they do have a 1 ticket forgiveness policy (at least we had one). Switched to 21st Century since they were cheaper and then switched to Liberty Mutual when they underbid 21st. Its nice to have good driving/credit record. Companies are "bidding" on your business/patronage.
He described her in another accident thread (hot blonde)(at least I hope it was a girl). jk
lol
meanwhile, you should have your insurance handle it. You should as her out though.. be like... "I'm sorry for the weird way we meet but do you want to go out?" She may not want to date you since her insurance will be going up next month
Make sure you do file that report. Someone rear ended my 1998 Camry, and it was about $1000 to fix the damage. It may not look like a lot of damage, but it adds up quickly. The girl who hit me went under my bumper, which caused a bit of damage to the spare tire well.
The bumper was about $150, painting it cost about $400 total. Labor was about $350, and then the other $100 or so was misc parts and tax. This was done at a private shop with only toyota parts. No dealers around here have body shops.
My insurance company didn't do a thing. I went there after the accident, and my agent took pictures just for records. I didn't go through them at all because the other person was 100% at fault. I dealt directly with her insurance company, which was stubborn at first, but eventually agreed to using Toyota parts, and to upgrade my rental from a sub-sub-SUB compact to a midsize, as I carpool to school, and the idea of shoving 4 or 5 people in a Metro or a Rio frightens me....lol.... but so did the Saturn L200 they gave me...lol.
PS: I was very suprised at how little damage my Camry suffered. I know the backs of cars are built strong, but even at high speeds, they can take a beating and keep ticking. I don't know about the girl in your case, but the girl who hit me had to get a new car, because her's was totaled.
