3rd Generation HELP, problem starting car.

Hey guys

Having a problem starting my car. When i turn the key all i hear is this rapid clicking noise coming from under the hood and all the lights in the cab start flickering.

About ten minutes before this happened the car started fine, i moved it from the street to my driveway, turned the engine off, was listening to some music and the stereo cut out. It then came back on and now the car won't start, i just get the clicking.

Could it be my battery? or do i have a problem with the starter?
I'm thinking it could be the battery, because that would explain why the stereo just cut out, but now the stereo still works and there are some lights in the cab, not sure what to do.

I appreciate any input.

Thanks

Quick check

remove the rubber caps on your battery terminals, to see if there is any corrosion on them (white powder)

if there is.. remove the wires off the terminals, clean and sand them until they're shiny again.

re-attach them

and try again.

Sounds like a battery to me. How old is the battery? Check it with digital meter and if the reading is below 12V, replaced it.

It sound like corrosion on the terminals to me

Because his accesories are working (lights, stereo) because the corrosion is still letting a small amount of current pass through the 12.6 volts.

however when he tried to turn over the motor, and draw hundreds of amps from the battery, the corrosion is resisting such a large draw, hence he's having problems.

Just try it out, it only take a few minutes to properly clean those terminals.
