How hard is a bearing job?

I need a new front driver side wheel bearing. How hard is this to do yourself? I've done it on solid axle truck bearings, but never anything in the form of FWD. I'm pretty mechanically inclined, but really, how hard is it?

Theres a bearing (wheel bearing) in the hub.

Anyways you need to unbolt the steering spindle/knuckle and have the bearing pressed in/out. Theres also some seals that you need to replace.

I had a wheel bearing go bad. I found it easier and cheaper to replace the entire spindle/knuckle with one from a junkyard.

If you don't have air tools, you'll need a breaker bar to loosen the axle nut. You'll most likely need a 30mm or bigger socket on the axle nut. Other than that, just your basic metric socket & wrench set to remove the torque plate, tie rod nut, and strut bolts holding the carrier. Torque wrench especially for the axle nut is recommended, and bfh for tie rod removal. Fairly easy and quick job.
Once you have the spindle removed, you can take it to any machine shop to have the new bearings and seal pressed in.

get the new bearing and a new hub, because the bad bearing has more than likely damaged the old hub.

Tie rod end puller to seperate the tie rod end from the spindle.

And you may or may not need a ball joint seperator (pickle fork). You use it to seperate the ball joint on the lca (lower control arm) from the spindle.

When I replaced the spindle on my gen 2, I didn't need the ball joint seperator. There was 2 bolts on the bottom.

its the same thing. 17mm for the bj nuts/bolt. 21 mm for the strut bolts. the axle nut is 30mm. im not sure if its 12 point or not tho.

mark the strut when your removing it so that you can try to keep the camber where it is.

New member here with 1992 Camry. Not trying to hijack the thread but I am also looking for information on how to replace my front bearings.

I have information read all related forum and posts and have read the manuals from Autozone and the manual linked in this forum. Since I don't have any speciality tools or a press, I was hoping that I might be able to buy an assembly of some sort that already contains the bearing (even if it means replacing a part on my vehicle that is in good shape).

My reading seems to indicate this is possible (replacing the Front Hub Assembly?).
If so, would I replace the Front Hub Assembly?
If not, which parts are you referencing as the "spindle"? Link to Autozone Diagram

you do not need to use a seperator to remove the tie rod end, while the tie rod is still connected to the knuckle with the crown nut removed, use a fairly stout hammer and hit the knuckle where the rod connects a few times and it will pop out.

the hub is the part with the studs, the spindle is the part that attaches to the strut. it iwll need to be pressed out.
