3rd Generation remove spark plug wires from distributor cap

Yesterday I wanted to check spark plug wires on my I4 96 camry. I thought it should be a pretty easy work. When I tried to unplug the wires from distributor cap, it took me a long time but I still couldn't make it. The wires are original ones that came with the car. For each wire, there is a cover (I don't know if it is a right word for it) to fix the wire plug on the cap but I couldn't see how to remove it. Any tips?
Thanks.

Theres some tabs on the cover. You need to push on those tabs and the cover will release.

Then slide the cover over the wire and remove the wire from the distributor cap. The wire just pulls out, but make sure you pull on wire by the plug and not the wire itself.

If you can't figure it, let me know and I'll get some pictures for you. My Corolla uses the same type of setup.

98 Camry has DIS (distributorless ignition system). This applies to the I4 (5S-FE) and V6 (1MZ-FE).

You unplug the wires from the coils since theres no distributor.

yeah. there are some tabs.

one critial factor, know where the wires go to.
each wire has it's own location and if you plug it in the wrong location on the distributor cap, your engine will misfire.

label them to avoid this headache.
