Camry transmission problem...

I wondered if any of had this problem.

My 98 camry is equipped with an automatic trans. On a cold start, even in summer, the trans take about 10 to 15 seconds to engage in the drive position.

Once the car has runned in the day, there is no more problem.

I changed the oil...no diffrence.

I'm leaning toward a faulty valve or pressurising device of some sort .

Any ideas.

Mine as a similar problem, If the car has sat for awhile and you put it in drive, it wont start to creep forward for like 10 seconds. If you give it gas it will just rev up and sit there. But after a few seconds it starts to move. It all happend after I had the tranny fluid flushed. I am doing a tranny swap in a week or two so Im not to worried though. I wouldnt worry to much about it.

Is the fluid level correct? start car, open hood and shift through all gears from P to 1 and then back to P.
with engine running check trans fluid level.
If OK,

Drain and fill your fluid. It happened to my 4cyl last summer, and that solved the problem.

well, there's always SeaFoam TransTune. Worked for me when my gen2 had the same problem.

The oil level is fine.

I'll do a search for the sea foam " thing".

Ya my 3.5 has had simular symptoms in the past, I didn't do anything about it and it just stopped doing it for now. I've never heard of seafoam for transmissions, I'll have to check that out too!

from the toyota manual

fluid pressure is low
forward clutch is bad
o/d clutch is not working right

when you dump the old fluid change the filter and clean the pan see if that helps. also maybe a tranny flush.

i said on an earlier post...basically i had the same thing on my- '92 V6XLE- you wouldnt feel the little pop forwards, and it would creap until i revved it to like 2.5, 3 grand and then pop and go. i got the tranny swapped- no problems now.
