ok im attempting the 5sgte but i ran into a cpuple of problems. first of all the turbo will never pass the camry engine mounts. so i put the sgte one on ands it seems to be fine but the motorr droped about 2 inches. will that be a problem? seocndly i cnat get the timing. i set everything at 0, put in the tensiioner. and everythigns fine. i turn the engine over once. its fine. twice. its fine. but aroudn teh 6th time the vavles hit. whats wrong? anyone no? help please!
does it start? if it does r u sure u reconnected everything, i e electrical/sensors...that will turn off the car sometimes depending what it is. done that a few times and was furious not knowing what was wrong, it then occured to me i forgot to reconnect the AFM control .....stuff like that will get ya
ur cam isnt lined up properly then....i dont know how those motors are marked but the hayes book will tell u, normally thers a hole in teh pulley/gear part to line up with another mark on the block....thats the only reason i can think of that they would be hitting.....if that doesnt solve it then (i assume its twin cam) somehow ur cams are outta wak with eachother, not angled appropriately to the valves
I believe the issue you're realizing has been covered before by other users. I recall someone stating that the compression changes in a 5sgte. I don't recall how much, which thread it's in or the exact situation, but I think this may be what you're experience.
A thought would be to look into the clearances between TDC on the piston and your valves. It's likely that the different valve angle (and likely deck height) of the G series head is causing the valves to touch the piston. You may need a thicker headgasket.
another thing that I don't understand from what you said is this... You can't get the timing right and the 6th revolution gets a valve to hit. Are you sure 1) your timing is correct and 2) your timing belt is tensioned properly?
If you have something (a belt) slipping, it could cause a loss of timing. I'd also pay close attention to if the timing actually changes after the 6th revolution and if it's gradual (I'm assuming it is).
Figuring this out may help to find the answer to your problem.
deck hight is something to look at also maybe the lenght of the timing belt should be looked at and the driving gear size. the 3s might have a diffrent size than the 5s.

plus you need a custom motor mount... And I'm the only one that has them...
