I swear I read something about this just yesterday!
I was chugging along fine and dandy, never had this kind of problem and suddenly the engine died on me. Tried to re-start and off I went.
Then it quit! I could not re-start, middle of the road, on a curve….heck I was lucky not to have been rammed in the rear. Long story short, after 10 minutes, I was able to start it and it acted like it was losing gas….pumped it…and was able to run it into a strip mall. Now my “Check Engine” light was on-off. I had to put it to Neutral and pump the gas to get the engine running. Everytime I hit a stop light, I was doing the brake-neutral-gas dance!
Anybody has the same symptoms? Car is in the shop now. This is scary as hell.
possibly ecu, but sounds more like you have an air leak after the MAF, causing it to get very lean. to check, get a can of carb/intake cleaner, spray it along the intake hose, around the MAF, basically where all connections are. im def. hoping its nothing more.

The mechanic that I sent the car to called and told me that the car did not die on him, when he test drove it. Just my luck.....
The CEL "Check Engine Light" was for a bad Engine Temp Sensor. Can this cause the engine to quit while it is running? Like it slowly dies...feels like running out of gas? Like your rpm just falls? Until it dies...?
Is this Engine Temp Sensor same as the Thermostat? That opens and closes the coolant?
Thanks a lot, was told it was a 1.5 hour job. Where is it located? Is it the one that is a plug in? Near the distributor? Somebody did a DIY on it, recently.
Yup, it was the same one that one of our members did a write up. But I am happy, I was not totally raped. Considering I was about to call the towing company which could have costed me $80 easy.
When you start seeing CEL (Check Engien Light) do not think it is for emissions only, it can and will stop your Camry dead and you do not want to be in the middle of the road waiting for the big bang!
Keep on learning!
How do we diagnose CEL? What's the procedure? What represents what? Thanks.
