A/C Compressor.........

Looking at a used 92' Camry XLE 85,000 original miles, One owner, V6, Auto, leather, power everything including both seats, etc......The Gentleman did tell me the A/C compressor just went out and there is a crack in the sunroof, but does not leak. He is asking $3400. Kelly Blue Book has it at $3485. Any idea how much a new compressor is as well as new glass for the sunroof? Trying to find some bargaining room here.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jason

remanufactured a.c compressor for a 1993 I4 was about 200 odd.
200-250 after an exchange for the old core.

You can get it (used, not remanufactured) on ebay for about 60-150
or http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/toyot...temZ7993684048

Labor is about 2 hours to install it, if you know what you are doing and that is what the mechanic should charge you.

for pricing,
www.kbb.com
www.edmunds.com

sounds reasonable and millage is below industry avg

i would deduct the $$ ur going to put into fixing the car from his asking price.

which part of LA are you from?

Thanks for helping out here. We are here in Lake Charles. My wife was born and raised here. I then took here to Alaska for several years. Then it was on to San Antonio, now back to Lake Charles. We just bought an 02' Camry SE and since we were looking for another vehicle to replace my truck I just sold thought we would give another camry a try. Especially since I found that one. Yes I am going to use the things that are broken as deductions in the negotiations.

If you can,

1) get a carfax (www.carfax.com)
2) Maintenance records if has it. Like when was the last major work done. Regular oil change???
3) take it to a mechanic, jack up the car and ask him " What is wrong with this car?". Will cost you about $20-30. i.e. he can tell if it has been in an accident and the frame is out of alignment, etc
4) just a FYI. it cost more to fix a v6. like oil change, 90k maintenance, timing belt change, etc ... but there is always the v6 = more power

I got my car in LA also, was from Lafayette.
The dude who sold it to me had a dealership license and pick up this camry (see pic) in a houston dealership auction. I guess he got it for a cheap price.

I took some pics of my car and went to google groups to ask about the price,
http://www.golfballmall.com/camry/index.htm
took it the mechanic and did lots of research from carfax to kbb to everything online for a 2000 camry.

Here is what I have found out so far. His grandmother buys a new car every year. She then gives it to a family member once she has about 3-4000 miles on it then buys another. He said this has gone on for as long as he can remember. He has all the maintenance receipts and everything since his grandmother bought the car new in 92'.

I'll talk to you later. Got to run, got compnay over and heading out the door to eat.

Thanks again,

Jason

Another question. If the compressor has gone out, could it not have contaminated the system and everything needed to be changed?
