Crankshaft Pulley Damage
When I pulled the crankshaft pulley from my daughter's '92 Camry I found that it was damaged. It probably happened when the prybar slipped and dropped onto my face. I was damaged too, but thats another story.
I'll describe the damage as best I can. The pulley has two belt faces, large and small. The smaller one is closer to the engine, and has a raised ring on its outer edge, the edge closest to the engine. That raised ring edge has a small chip. The chip measures 5/8 inch long by 1/8 inch deep. Its not quite an deep as the top of the groove dividers for the belt. Now that's perfectly clear, isn't it?
I'm sure I can smooth the edges of the chipped area, and I'm sure it would spin without damaging the belt. The only real question in my mind is one of balance. The outer edge of the ring is 2 inches from the centerline of the crank, and the missing chip has to throw off the balance just a bit. Will this slightly out of balance condition be enough to seriously effect the running of the engine? The engine, btw, is a 5S-FE.
The dealer here thinks these crank pullies are pretty special. They'd be willing to sell me one for only $221. I'm desperately trying to avoid that.
Any opinions? As always, all help and suggestions are welcome and appreciated.
