tranny issue? (pics)

Ok, so yesterday, my car decided that it didn't feel like staying where I parked it. It was in Reverse (5spd manual) and had the e-brake pulled. When I came back, it had rolled about 10 feet into the back of my boss's chevy. resulting in:

The fender was pushed in alot more, but I pulled it out quite a bit so I could open the drivers door. AS annoyed as i am about my 2month old paint job being crushed, I'm more concerned about a possible transmission issue, cause I'm paying $95 for a new fender, but a new tranny would be considerably more. So how'd this happen?

Just get it pulled, you'll never know what happened to it. Get into a dent wizard.

Are you saying that i should leave it in first when it's parked going downhill?... I don't think so...

the car has170K and I've driven it the last 3 days with no apparent problems...

...and yes, my boss's truck is fine, all it did was knock the dust off his bumper, thats what ya get for having real steel bumpers...

oh good. i'd say get that brake adjusted. probably your most important thing. i've always feared driving a manual because something like what happend to you would happen. not that it couldnt happen to an auto.

Good luck and hopefully u can get back on track for only a few bucks.

With that many miles it's probably beginning to get cylinder leakdown, or blowby. Parking in 1st gear ought to give more of a gear ratio increase than reverse and direction really doesn't matter. Do you angle your front tires to the curb when you park or was there no curb?

Park uphill or downhill..doesnt really matter what gear you put it in..It shouldnt move at all..and maybe its your hand break..Get the hand break adjusted and it should be tight like how you first got it..
