My 2004 Camry V6 's ACIS is made of plastic. Has anyone removed this to get at the air control valve everyone is cleaning and grinding up ? The 10mm nuts are attached to bolts within the plastic, and I can see these stripping the plastic seat when I attempt to remove them. Even the intake plenum is black plastic. Need some info from you guys before I continue.
there is NO WAY its plastic... plastic would crack under the intake pressure in no time :P
might wanna take some pictures...

There's no pressure in a Naturally Aspirated 1MZ-FE engine, Turbo's generate pressure (psi/etc.) NA's do not. In fact, it all operates under vacuum and with modern advances in formed plastic it can very easily withstand the heat and 'pressure' of an engine. The PT Cruiser, Half of Ford's product line (in fact they had a lawsuit settled recently about 'em), most current Honda's, The LS1 engine (The motor in many Vettes, Camaro's and Trans Am's) and many others utilize plastic intake manifolds. Being cheaper, and easier to mass produce (not to mention) lighter, there's every reason to make them out of plastic. Many ALSO have plastic covers, but those parts are not one and the same.
Now, as for whether or not the ACIS valve is plastic, I don't know. I've got the 1MZ with Metal parts

Who came up with this 500px wide BS?
yeah, ABS plastic is tough shit. The manifold on chevy trucks (5.3L I believe) is black plastic, and I've also heard of a lot of other cars having them. Not rare, and I wouldn't put it past a mfr to make the ACIS out of plastic too
you could cut the whole thing off and tell us how it goes
