Power Steering Problem??

Now that the timing belt has been replaced, and the engine is running so well, my daughter has "discovered" the next problem on her '92 Camry--5S-FE engine.

She says that the power steering feels "funny". It squeels when turned all the way to hard-over lock. Thats not too abnormal. It also shudders at hard-over lock. You can feel it sitting in the car, and see the see it in the hose to the resevoir. She says that there is greater resistance the closer she gets to full-lock turn.

At just a quick glance this morning, the resevoir seemed to be full, and the steering is not leaking. Keep in mind, I've just done the timing belt, so the steering drive belt was off, but otherwise I did nothing to mess with the power steering.

Is the car developing a problem? What can be done at this point?

Thanks,

Ken

Check the belt tension. Slipping will cause both those problems.

You're absolutely right. I forgot the first rule of the shadetree mechanic---start with the easy and cheap fixes.

Another fine example of automotive hypochondria.

Thanks for the help.
