Crank Pully Removal Problem...Need Advice

I'm trying to replace my timing belt for my 1999 Camry. I have all the belts removed. I just need to get the damn crank pully off! How do I take the bolt off without making the pulley spin with the bolt. I have the haynes manual and it tells me to wedge a pry bar against the flywheel...but I don't even know how to get to the flywheel. The manual is vague on the description to get to the flywheel. Is there another way to get the crank pulley off? Thanks a bunch all!

Impact wrench.

The easiest way to get to the flywheel is to remove the starter.

Toyota has a SST (special service tool) that holds the crank pulley and keeps it from spinning while you loosen up the bolt.

His problem is getting the bolt on the crank pulley off.

A pulley puller is not gunna do anything for you unless you get the bolt off.

IMPACT!!

or if the impact is not strong enough with all those flexes, use a 1/2 inch drive ratchet and a 5 foot steel tube over it, that'll probably get anything off

that's what i had to do to take the head off my old volvo, my shitty electric impact wasn't powerfull enough

Take the 1/2 inch drive ratchet (or breaker bar) and a 5 foot steel tube over it, and set the socket on the bolt and the end of the poll on the ground (if the pulley turnes clockwise (cause it's not a Honda) when you look at it, then lay the poll on to the right of the pulley).

Have one person cautiosly hold the ratchet/poll in place while the other person taps the ignition (not starting the car, just letting the starter ingage and then release).

If this is the first time the pulley has been taken off, then it should be on there with Toyota's specs and not some idiot tech who just wants to get the job done, so he uses a 600 lb. impact wrench! :x

Sorry.

Anyway, be VERY careful when you do this, and make sure each of the two people has common-sense. If this doesn't work you'll probably have to get some air tools somehow.
