My alarm goes off when I use my key!

Hi guys, I was hoping you could help me fix a little problem my sister has before she has to get her car towed to the dealer.

All of a sudden the alarm her 1997 Avalon sounds off when she tries to open the car with her key (which looks like it might be a valet key to me). We've tried both doors and still no luck. The car won't even start when this happens. I know that you can use the keyless entry and press unlock and this will turn off the alarm, but she is on vacation here and doesn't have her keyless entry for some reason.

After trying a few times, I ended up calling a dealer to try to fix the problem. A service guy I talked to said that there will be either a red button on the dash (yes, she has one of those) or a button near the brake pedal. He said I have to hold that in for two seconds and then turn the key to on and it should work. I tried that, and the alarm still comes on and the car won't start. So I called another dealer and they said that my Avalon doesn't have a factory alarm, and that I will have to get the car towed in to be looked at.

Why would this all of a sudden start happening? If it helps, the keyless entry transmitter is black with a slight bend, and has a green and a red button if I remember correctly. If we can't get this fixed I will have someone overnight me the keyless transmitter but I'd like to think this problem is easily solved.

when you tried what the dealor said...did you wait for a response from the alarm?....what he told you is basically the universal way to disarm most alarms without a remote....go try again.

1. finger on button and keep it on there
2. key to on.
3. wait for alarm's response
4. then start engine
my car rearms automatcially if i have taken the battery wires off and put them back on..did you do that?
