Hey all, first time posting on this forum, but plan on being around for a while...
I am planning on getting a low mileage, used Camry sometime towards the end of next month. Probably an '04, maybe an '03. I've looked at kits and really like the Vizage kit. A while ago, I used to see these kits on eBay. Original and copy kits. The copies were urethane and were about half the cost. Now I only see originals for $700+. Anyone happen to know about the quality of the copy kits? If they are decent, I do not see paying twice as much for the original. I know that copy kits can go either way though, so I do not want something that does not fit well. Also, does anyone happen to know where to get them now, since they do not show up on eBay?
I was asking specifically about the Vizage kit versus the copy kit though. Both were listed on eBay as urethane. I wanted to know if the copy kit fits good. Some copy kits out there are absolute garbage and others are actually really good quality and have great fitment. I've never seen feedback on either version of this kit, so I'm not sure about it.
As far as the differences betweeen fiberglass and urethane, I know all about that. I used to have a Honda del Sol that was in shows, magazines, had a long list of sponsors, won trophies, etc. I am not a newbie to the import scene or modifications. I also used to sell aftermarket stuff and sold a ton of Kaminari stuff (they had urethane and fiberglass). I was also the guy who started Team Sol Intl., which is kinda the del Sol equivalent to this type of site.
As far as urethane being "better", my opinion is that good quality fiberglass is best. The paint on aftermarket urethane will spiderweb when it's hit. Even at slower speeds. Factory won't but that painting process is not what your typical body shops uses. Fiberglass will scrape the paint, but good fiberglass will usually not spiderweb. Good fiberglass should not shatter unless you really nail it hard. Having a scrape on the bottom where nobody can see is fine with me. Having to repaint my front bumper after I hit a dip in the road is no fun. I'm not planning on dropping the Camry a ton, so I'm cool with urethane this time around.
Fiberglass kits are FINE. I hate hearing people saying "Urethane won't break" etc. That's just ignorant. First off, the reason why people say "Fiberglass breaks" is because half those idiots don't know how to drive a fucking kitted car. They're going into driveways straight on and they're driving aroudn carelessly. That's why you see "broken kits".
Urethane is NOT indistructable. I've seen urethane kits break too. Just be careful the way you drive and you'll be fine.

that is true somewhat man, but honestly urethane kits hold up better than fiberglass, when you have the unfortunate bumps... i have had my rod millen lip hit a lot of shit on the road and it just flexs better than FG... 2 friends with fiberglass lips have cracked them, and they are waaaaaay more cautious then me, it is just shitty when you clip a low item and you have a weaker piece, but i agree that the general fibgerglass kit, when installed well and cared for should be ok
but it is just a fact that urethane has a lot more elastic hold then FG - as ron burgandy said "you can't mess with it man... it's SCIENCE"
