They make these drilled rotors for the 92/97 I4 but they don't make pads... If I just used stock pads would it work ok or what?

Also, I have heard that by putting these on you actually loose breaking power, under normal conditions, due to a smaller of surface area. Anyone have any experience with this?

I guess it's better to say you won't gain much performance if you put those rotors on. I would suggest you to upgrade your pads first and see how you like it. Cross-drilled/slotted rotors are more show than anything. TeamSC3 is plannnig to do a SS Brake Lines GB and I'm going to jump in if the price is right.

And why would you want to get OBX rotors when you can get Brembos?

actually... it depends on what kind of performance you are looking at, i wouldn't go as far as to say that cross drilled and slotted rotors are "more for show than anything"...

cross drilled and slotted rotors do not decrease braking distance, but they do lots to combat fade... case in point, on the fabi track at shannonville, the 240's stock brakes could stop the car in time... but after a lap or two, the brakes would be so hot that the pedal just sinks to the floor and you have no braking at all... we rolled into the pits with the brake pedal floored and we were just rolling forward...

to combat that, first we would need to get some brake fluid that doesn't boil as easily, the rotors would do plenty to help remove the heat. after the fluid the rotors are the weak link, if they are too hot then they cannot hold more heat (remember that braking is the conversion of your velocity into heat - if your rotors cannot hold more heat, it doesn't matter how good your pads are, you still won't stop)

also, just because obx doesn't make any pads for your car doesn't mean you can't use better pads with your car, you can get any pads that fit your caliper and they will work with whatever rotors you have... if you really want more instant braking power, you would, as kamuri said, want to go to pads first.

for street pads, though, you would want something that has most of its braking power even when they are cold... i've heard axxis metal masters work well in that respect... stuff like carbon fiber race pads do stop well, when they are warmed up... if somebody cuts in front of you and you slam on the brakes with those pads you will just keep going... and going... until you slam into his back...

imho, if you really want less fade, i would recommend you to go to bigger and thicker calipers and rotors... the more rotor you have, the more heat you can hold...

btw, obx rotors *are* brembo rotors... almost all companies in the states that sell slotted and cross drilled rotors buy the rotors from brembo, then they drill and slot them themselves... which does decrease its strength. brembo's cross drilled rotors are actually cast with the holes already in them, so they are much stronger. obx's ARE cheaper by a bit, so if you're looking for show, well...

In terms of pads you have plenty of choices. KVR, TRD, Hawk, EBC are all reputable performance brands with applications for the camry.
