Camry & Solara LoungeDiscussion area for every generation of Toyota's family car, the Toyota Camry. Lexus ES250/300 owners welcome! Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance and more.
Hello, and let me introduce myself. I'm Langdon, I'm a '97 Avalon owner and this is my first post here.
I've run into a sticky problem that has my mechanic stumped in the same vein as the post: http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t79664.html. This is the second set of tires that have proved chronically leaky, and finally someone suggested to me that flaking chrome plate on my aluminum rims might be to blame.
I've narrowed my options down to semiannual grind-and-sealings or to get new wheels for my Avalon. Problem is, $275 per wheel for Toyota wheels is out of my budget, yet this is the family car so I can't allow myself to get something that I don't know is safe.
Can anybody tell me more about the safety and quality of aftermarket wheels in comparison to stock Toyota? What do you think my options are here? Are there any brands you could recommend?
You can also buy used OEM Toyota take offs. Some of them are fairly new because someone decided to get aftermarket wheels and sell the OEM wheels. Check out eBay. Wheels from Camry, Avalon, ES300, Solara, and Sienna will fit your car.

Actually, wheels from any Lexus sedan will fit your car, not just the ES. The bolt patterns for the GS, IS, and ES are all 5x114.3.. I have IS300 rims on mine, and I got a damn good deal on them.

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.

i think you meant IS rims won't fit and ES will....

They probably will, but the offsets are different. I was being conservative because I don't know what those offsets are and didn't want his tires rubbing. Since the ES is basically a Camry I figured the wheels would be the same and more or less interchangable.

I was under the impression that if a camry owner wanted to put IS300 rims on his/her camry, they would have to use spacers, due to the difference in offsets

Yeah, but I think since he drives an Avalon, the offsets for those were higher than the Camry... I can be wrong, but yeah..

No, I meant just what I said lol. Why would IS rims not fit if I put them on mine?
haha, sorry. i was under the impression that we were talking about older models. i know that the gen5 can wear IS rims without any offset issues and dang it, they look awesome.

Your best bet as far as money is concerned is probably going to be aftermarket. As far as quality like someone else said you get what you pay for. I would suggest looking around though if you want factory Toyota or Lexus wheels to put on the Avalon. I know here in Nashville there are several compaines that sell take offs from new cars or when people total their cars out they buy the wheels fromt eh scarp yard and sometimes you can get a good deal on them. Look in your local phonebook for any company that sells hubcaps and wheels and give them a call. or call around to some of your local junk yards and see if they have any.
