Thumbs up new PCV valve (PICS)

new part from autozone:

Old part:

can you spot the new PCV valve?

very very simple, just reached in and took the old one out and then detached it from the rubber hose. Reverse to install new one. Couldn't be simpler, no tools needed, makes changing the oil look difficult. Took all of a minute. Should be same on all most V6 toyotas aka Camry Avalon 3.0 3.3 vvti

After I removed the old one it sounded clogged compared to the new one, ball inside wasnt moving nearly as well as it does in the new one, so I'm thinking this will fix my poor mpg. Multidisplay keeps saying I should be averaging 27+ but I've been getting ~22 so instead of ~456 miles out of my last tank I only got 376 from 16.9 gallons (full tank is what, 18.5? something like that)

If this doesnt work time to replace O2s

you're lucky you grommet wasnt hardened like mine and when you pulled it off, it didnt crumble into the valve cover. good thing i bought a new grommet. and good thing i had the patience to clean the shards out of the valve cover baffle.

Thats hoe easy mine was. I only noticed a very sligth MPG gain, but the idle did improve a bit.

Mine was metal and screwed on instead, so no chance of little parts going into engine.
Do you need to reset the EFI relay after replacing this PCV valve ?

it's emissions control related. there is set amount of miles you change it. um....symptoms could could be but not related--lower gas milage, bad idle, and others...i forget. Easy way to tell is take it out and shake it, if it feels like there is something clinks and clangs in it, it's still good, if there's no sound and you can't blow air through it, you need a new one.

if the valve is clogged, you will get insane pressure build up on the rear bank, probably making the rear valve cover leak oil and a general nono.

DO NOT vent this valve the intake vacuum helps open the valve to lower the pressure, return it into the intake, if you want to filter it, b4 pluggung the hose back on get a inch of panty hose and put it over then plug the hose back on top stop the oil blow back.

Two things I have found the OEM pcv valve a little heavier and better built than the aftermarket , then the price almost triples.

Second I took out the old pcv valve and shake it , I do hear that the check ball inside rattles.
But again when compare with the new valve it sounded a little dull.

after changing the valve , the idle is a tad smoother. To take the pcv valve out I have to wiggle it by hand because it was pretty tight. When putting it back I have touse a little engine oil as lubricant which also helps to seal better.

What good does PCV replacement do

Makes money for Toyota. Take it out & shake it if it rattles it is still good only has to open slightly to pass crankcase pressure

i checked the autozone manual yesterday. Aren't we suppose to use PCV191 instead of PCV178?
