reading through my owners manual this morning and i come across the specifications section. trying to fill my head with more info on my lucious camry, i begin reading al the little specs. i then came across the "fuel "types" section. it clearly states that "For 3VZ-FE engine, to improve vehicle performance, the use of Premium unleaded gasoline with a Research Octane Number 96 (Octane Rating 91) or higher is reccomended." pretty interesting. i never knew that. really sucks because premium fuel here in ohio is oh, $3.59 a gallon. i hope it drops. so i guess my question is, how many of you guys with the 3VZ-FE actually use premium and are there any drawbacks to using say 87 octane verses the 94 octane we have here?
you'll notice the different when you use Normal petrol and Premium petrol. if you use premium petrol you'll get less Carbon inside the engine compare to normal petrol. as i have found out the hard way
well mine is a 1mz and I run regular. I have had the car for about a year now and have had no problems whatsoever. No pinging knocking or anything. My sienna on the other hand doesnt like anything but premium. I cant afford to put premium in two cars so mine will ahve to suffer for a little while.

i hope you havnet been reading the bullshit advertising that the petrol stations have.
you end up with MORE carbon deposits with premium in the 3vz becuase it catn burn all the fuel properly without proper aftermarket tuning.
becuase we run to rich, wel also loose a whack of throttle response down low (not burning any fuel) although some ppl find it smoother at the top of the rpm range.
the 1mz on the other hand was made for premium, and retards for lower ratings.
i know in theory that knock snesors shoul dhav ea timing advance allowance for higher grade fuel but with this engine it just doesnt seem to happen

premium lasts longer but it costs more.. so ti depends on price i guess
unless you got dome major mods on the 3vz, just run a good quality whatever it is crap ratin gfuel you got there.
i reccomend BP -- more mileage then otehr brands.
i get 550km min on their normal ULP and 600km min on Ultimate PULP

BP gasolene is what we use.
I only fill up with mid-grade/premium if the prices are similar or the same.
i can get over 300 miles on a tankful, and i only wish it was more with these crazy-insane prices.

with gas prices nowadays i never really thought about running my cam on plus or premium, i always use regular. I always thought that BS about gas lasting longer when using high grades was a myth but i guess ill try it out once gas prices go down and see what happens...
youd probably have to search around for yourself with different compnaies and run different full tanks but thats what ive found.
i only ever fill up BP ULP in the camry and BP Ultimate (top grade PULP) in the 1000RR
