Camilla is hurt....

I was driving to my parents' house from my apt in Chicago, and got caught in rush hour traffic. It's a common thing, for those of you who know Chicago traffic... 6am-8pm is rush hour. Anyway... I was sitting behind this semi in the far left lane (on I-55 south, just after Lake SHore Drive dumps onto 55), and doing the typical creep, stop, creep, stop. Granted, my clutch leg started getting kinda tired, especially since this lasted for 2 hours. I felt the clutch starting to slip (it's been doing that for awhile now), and then.... I felt the clutch get SUPER stiff.... as if someone magically installed a 6-puck racing clutch in a matter of seconds. I took it as a warning that something wasn't quite right, so I tried taking it even easier on the clutch.... then.... BOOOOOOOM!!!!! the car went dead. Couldn't get it started, couldn't get it to turn over. Pushed it over to the shoulder, and the IL State Troopers called AAA to come pick me up, and took my car to the shop. Came to find out that the clutch exploded into 7 pieces, and a new one had to be installed. I was *hoping* to get the ACT stage 2 clutch installed, but on a severely limited budget, and a 500 deductible on insurance, OEM was the only way to go. So, I gotta baby it for another 500 miles to break it in, and hopefully get me through until I have enough cash to get all the mods done at once... (so much for getting the JIC coilovers for Camilla this christmas).

BTW, Camilla is a 1992 Camry DX sedan, 5S-FE, 5spd, just clocked 74,000 miles.

I know.... I saw the clutch kit, AND lightened flywheel for like 350 total, + shipping.... but that would take time.... they had the clutch in stock, and it was done the same day. I NEED my car.... I couldn't have gone more than a day without the car. Every second ticking by, while Camilla was on the lift felt like an eternity.... I don't like taking my baby to the hospital... (the car to the shop)... and I feel like the father of a toddler who needs an organ transplant every time she has to go to the hospital. Oh well... perhaps I have a strange affection for my car, but then again, who doesn't? If you don't, then you don't belong on a car forum!
