"Check Engine" light

On a 97 4 cyl camry 60k the check engine light is on and the car runs fine; sometimes it goes off for a while..ie a few weeks..then may come on for a few weeks. One mechanic said it was the fuel ratio sensor but I could't find that in the manual. Maybe called something else ? ...I asked if it was the O2 sensor but he said it was this other one. any ideas or what is likely to cause this on "most" of cars this mialage?
Thanks for any info!

perhaps you should look into your EGR position sensor. suprisingly they are cheaper at the dealer than anywhere else around here. just a thought. however, i've never heard of a fuel ratio sensor. seems fishy to me. but then im kinda new to the camry.

take your car to auto zone, have them read the codes in your computer and come back and do a search. your machinaic is an idiot.

also as long as your or your crack head machanic didnt pull the fuse or dissconect the battery the codes should still be in it even tho the check light is off.

Know your vehicle before you make yourself look like the idiot.

First let me guess the code to be something like PO125.

In 1997 the California Spec 4cyl Camrys are equiped with an Air/Fuel Ratio Sensor upstream of the catalytic converter. The sensor downstream of the converter is still an O2 Sensor. These sensors have been known to fail.
