I am in the process (its a long one) of converting all my green bulbs into red. I have tried many different methods and I am only now beginning to make some progress.
Stock head unit:
This is my modified gauge cluster using 5 modified 6-LED cluster bulbs. The original bulbs are these:
I sanded down the lenses on these in order to create better light dispersion:
The result is much better than the orignal 6-LED bulbs with convex lenses. In order to maximize the light output to the gauge faces I also installed a reflective material around the permieter of the actual gauges.
This is the material:
The relective material is applied in the areas shown to reflect light back into the gauges where it is useful:
Here are the results:
This is the orginal modification of the HVAC unit with incadesants.
I made a new custom LED array to make the HVAC brighter:
And finally I changed the AUTO button on the driverside window from green to red. This button actually uses a green LED on the window switch circuit board. I cut it off and soldered a resistor, red LED onto it. Here are the results:
Original modification (RED LED):
This LED also need to be modified to increase light dispersion. The convex lenses was sanded down to create a more level output:
That is just super dooper awesome what you've done. I was also reading up online on how to make my own Smd led board for my guage panel becase I'm not satisfies with it with the bulbs i currently have.
I think that will be a terrific DIY. I'm definately interested. Nice!
there is definitly a bulb behind that LCD display. after you remove the metal "cage" around the display, hopefully you can peek under it to see whats there. if the display is soldered in then its not to bad to work on, the only problem i foresee is if the display is sitting on a "zebra" strip, to make its connections. i have never been able to get one to work properly after lifting it off the strip.
