Check your local hardware store or locksmith. Some have the keys with the chips. Look in the phone book and call one up. The hardware store down the street from me in San Francisco had the chipped keys and the programing device. The hardware stores out where I live in SoCal do not.

looking into this a hair.
It appears that you can get a blank key and using the master key program it using a pedal dance of sorts.
Most info here is for 98+ toyotas, i make no guarentees because im looking for my 98 xle

Summit racing has a blank key
http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...t=JBS-TOY43AT4
for cheap but im not sure about how it gets cut etc

I found this guy
https://www.lexuskeys.info/index.php
off lexus club (earlier post) it appears to be one of the more informed web
he asks for 45 for a cut key, which you then have to program yourself.
I have the pedal dance of sorts and can post it if anyone wants it

looking for any people who have done this/know anything about it

The key is a dealer item only. Even if you get a blank key and have it cut, it still needs to be programmed. In order to program the new key, of which there is two ways. The first is with a Toyota Diagnostic tester the second is the pedal method. There are two types of keys , a master key and a sub key. You still a master key in order to program the new key. The way to know the difference is upon insertion of the key into the ignition. If the security light goes out , then you have a master key, if the light stays on for two seconds then you have a sub key. I have been working as a Toyota Tech for the past 14 years. If you have any further questions let me know

why would it be dealer only. If there is a pedal dance method, why couldnt we do it at home. I have a master key and can get another sub key online, that can be cut based on VIN at the place.

I think im gonna go with the online place, my local dealer quoted me 100$ for a key whereas its 45 online.
